How to Install The CoolRVToyz Ultimate RV Parks & Campgrounds Directory on You Magellan GPS

In order to use the Ultimate RV Parks & Campgrounds Directory on your Magellan GPS, you will need to install the list on your GPS device. Magellan doesn't make this as simple as it should be because different Magellan GPS units have different installation processes. Basically, there are 2 methods available to install the list onto Magellan GPS units. If your GPS can accept the newer MGLN waypoint files, this is the easiest method. Depending on your GPS, you'd use the Magellan POI File Editor program or other tools that came with your GPS.

These instruction are based on a Magellan Maestro 3200 GPS. See your Magellan documentation for more details about this process for your unit.

When you installed the RV Parks & Campgrounds List to your computer, the installation created a folder on your C: drive named C:\CoolRVToyz\Magellan\RV Parks & Campgrounds. Inside that folder are 2 addition folders named CSV Files and MGLN Files. The files you need to install the POI’s to your GPS are in one of those folders, depending on the installation method you choose.

The RV Parks & Campgrounds list is categorized into 15 different categories. Each is in a different file. The names of the files should be intuitive as to what information the file contains. Please note that the Magellan POI File Editor program can only handle 1 category at a time when loaded this way, and no single category can contain more than 10,000 entries. This is a limitation of the Magellan products and we have grouped the categories accordingly.

Installing using the MGLN Files

Installing the MGLN Files is the easiest and fastest method available to load the directory categories onto your Magellan GPS. We recommend you use this method if your GPS can accept the MGLN files we have generated. If you run into problems, you will need to skip this installation method create the MGLN files yourself using the CSV file in the C:\CoolRVToyz\Magellan\RV Parks & Campgrounds\CSV Files folder. Once you've done that you should be able to follow these instructions to load those MGLN files into your GPS. Refer to your Magellan documentation for specifics on how to load the CSV files and save them as MGLN files.

You can install as few or as many of these as you want. These files are comma-separated-value (CSV) files that use a semi-colon as the delimiter. This was done because the semi-colon is the default for the Magellan POI File Editor program. On many computers these files are associated with Microsoft Excel. Do not open and resave these files using Excel or they will not load into your GPS correctly. Microsoft Excel changes the files when it resaves them. It’s okay to open the files with Excel to examine them, just remember not to save them.

The User’s Manual that came with your Magellan GPS has an excellent section covering how to do this using the Magellan POI File Editorsoftware and the other tools that also came with your GPS. Simply follow the instructions in your manual and use the folder mentioned above to locate the files you want to install.

Happy RV’ing!
